Rant: I rather be a PRINCESS than a POP STAR!!

Thu Nov 13, 2008, 7:51 PM
Disney?!

Of all the things I could have chosen to rant about first, I choose Disney?! (Let's get right into it..)

I am not ashamed to say it. I am a Disney-tard. Disney is my crack. I am a Disney whore. I love Disney. You can check my favorites. More than half of the contents are Disney related.

Hmm... if I HAD to pick, I'd say that The Little Mermaid is my all time favorite Disney movie. (Tarzan, a close second) When I first saw the movie, I fell in love with everything! The music, the characters, the story! (The totally unrealistic but beautiful red hair!) That movie is a pure example about what Disney WAS all about. Adventure, fun, silliness, and, above all, magic.

Thinking about this one day after school, I started to wonder, where did it all go wrong? What happened? When did Disney lose the magical-aspect? How could this have happened?

And then I turned on the television and saw the opening to Hannah Montana.

Oh.

That.

I see now, that no longer do we hear about curses, fairies, genies in lamps, extremely buff guys in loin clothes. (lol)

Now, it's all about High School Musical (Eek), Miss Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana/Whatever the hell she feels like being called today (Ugh) and the Jonas Brothers. (Puh-lease!)

Disney Channel RUINED Disney!!

Magic's been replaced by "music", if you can even call it that! The voices sound whiny and fake and the songs are ALWAYS about the same thing! AND NONE OF THEM ARE ROCK! All I know is, if kids in my high school started to spontaneously break into organized song and dance, they'd get the SHIT beaten out of them!

Also, I don't think that Disney realizes that their helping the youth of the world grow up a bit too fast. I understand that the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana were aiming for the tweens, but that ended up kind of hitting 7-10 year olds instead. (Is ten considered a tween year? I don't even know anymore...) These young kids are seeing all of these "cool" teenagers in high school and start to want to be like that! That isn't right! Seven year olds should act like seven year olds and fifteen year olds should act like fifteen year olds. (I act more like a four year old, but hey, whatever! ^-~)

What are the people at Disney THINKING?! The answers pretty obvious. They want MONEY!! It doesn't matter the quality of their entertainment anymore or what their stuff is teaching young kids. They want to be "trendy" and "cool".

That's the thinking that lost the Disney magic. I'm more than likely wrong, but, from what I've read, Walt Disney himself didn't seem like the kind of guy to care about money. It seemed like he just wanted people to laugh and enjoy themselves. It seemed like he actually wanted people to believe in magic. Walt Disney spread happiness and joy, and for that, he is my hero.

Disney holds a special place in my heart and that's because Disney taught me about believing, friendship, and that magic really does exist. Disney made me feel like a princess.

I hope the guys at Disney nowadays realize that the Hannah Montana-Jonas Brothers-High School Musical generation will never feel that way. Cause what they've been taught is that you're only "popular" and "hip" if you can sing well, dance amazingly or act your heart out. Disney taught that generation to be pop stars.

That generation will NEVER understand the true magic of Disney.
